Siargao Day 1: Chilling and Walking Around

fbt

My friends and I booked a 5-day trip to Siargao. I initially thought that 5 days on the island was too long. It was when I got there that I realized, 5 days are not enough. My next blog posts will be dedicated on how I fell in love with the island.

We spent majority of our day 1 travelling to Siargao. We took a flight with Cebu Pacific with the route via Cebu. We got our tickets for PHP 5k per person due to the promo fare. Of course, the downside to a connecting flight was that there was a long layover in Cebu. My friends took this time to catch up on some zzz’s while I got caught up with playing mobile games.

Upon our arrival at IAO Airport, we immediately got a van who drove us to the city proper. The fee is PHP 300 per person and they’ll drop you off at the exact place where you are staying. For this trip, we stayed at Villa Solaria which is walking distance to the famous Cloud 9.

After our afternoon naps, we took a walk to Cloud 9. Cloud 9 is THE place to be for surfers. For beginners, there’s this area just beside Cloud 9 called the Jacking Horse. If you are not confident about your surfing skills, this is the place is good enough.

After taking pictures, we went to Yeah Yeah Tacos. It was just a small taco shop along the highway but man, their tacos are to die for. I found the tacos a bit pricey (PHP 100 per soft-shell taco) but  trust me when I say that it is worth your money. They use a spicy sauce that really upgrades your palate. There are several flavors to choose from: pork, chicken, vegetable and fish.

Another good thing about Siargao is that they practice a no plastic bottle policy. I think most tourist spots in the Philippines should practice this policy. Recently, I’ve been seeing a lot of videos in the internet of sea turtles dying because of the massive plastic residues around the ocean. Since Siargao has this policy, it is best to bring your own water bottle. They have various water refilling stations around the island that tourists could use.

After Yeah Yeah Tacos, we got drinks at Offshore Sports Bar just across Cloud 9. The place has a chill vibe to it and they served cold beer to our liking.

That’s it for day 1!
